Skyping at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School

Mrs. Post's reading class Skyped with Mike King on December 16. Mr. King became a paraplegic in 1978, after a motorcycle accident. Starting in August 1986, Mike began a trip pushing his wheelchair from Fairbanks, Alaska, to Washing, D.C. His trip covered 5,605 miles and took 120 days. The purpose of the trip was to raise awareness about people with disabilities.

The reading class read an account of Mike's trip and wrote questions to ask him about his trip and his life since the trip. Being able to contact the actual person the class read about was a unique opportunity to use technology in the classroom. Hopefully, Mike King will keep in touch with his new sixth-grade friends at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School.
