Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School

Welcome- Mrs. Stoeckle

                                                                             Welcome to Team B Math

Greetings!  I want to give you an overview of math in 6th grade Team B.  We are starting an exciting new math program this year from Carnegie Math.  It is easy to get to it from the Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School website.  You will be able to access the book from home and the students can do work on Mathia which is like having a private tutor.  If you ever need tech support for Mathia, you can email them at help@carnegielearning.com or call 1-877-401-2527.

Materials needed for class each day:
pencil
parent log
binder and agenda
book or chrome book  -  in room

How to succeed:
Come to school.
Try.
Discuss what we do in class each day.
Turn in signed parent logs on time each week.

What we learn:
We learn the same types of math with Carnegie that we learned in math last year; we just learn it in a different way.  Students will still learn whole numbers, decimals, fractions, ratios, percents, algebra, geometry and problem solving.  Keep in mind, when we start a new program, it is challenging for everyone.  Stay calm and trust in the math.  If your child is struggling, the best thing you can do is have them work on Mathia at home.  Work on it with them and make sure they understand how to use hints, step-by-steps, and the glossary.  We did the pre-launch as a group, but you might want to look at it with your child so that you understand the program.

Expectations:
Be kind, polite, and positive.
Work hard and do YOUR best.
Be prepared and on time.
Be part of the solution.
Treat others the way you want to be treated.

If we all work together, we will have a successful 6th grade math experience.  MATH really is a beautiful language!
