Students in Science 8 have been learning Biotechnology Techniques. To start off, the students learned how to load a gel with dye samples. The electrophoresis machine sends electricity through a gelatin media, and it separates DNA based on size. In this pre-lab, students had 3 different colors and an unknown to identify. The machine separates the colors in to their component parts and they were were able to identify the unknown after it separated them. Students will be identifying mutations on the p53 gene in a later lab.
