Principal, Samantha Leput and Mateal Poling, worked hand in hand to finalize the design and the necessary steps to provide a high tunnel at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School. The tunnel allows students at B-UMS to have the opportunity to learn, grow, and experience the importance of producing vegetables and other plants. It is our hope that a high tunnel will teach our students responsibility, commitment, and teamwork. Several elementary schools in Upshur County already have high tunnels and it would be great to enrich the service and knowledge they have earned and gained. B-UMS plans to work with our Partners in Education and Upshur County Schools and established ways to incorporate approved healthy fresh foods that can be served on our snack bar to our students at B-UMS. Every year our county celebrates the Strawberry Festival, B-UMS plans to implement a problem-based learning strawberry project.
This project would not have been possible without the generous donations from the following sponsors!
