🎶 Big Talent. Big Opportunities. Right Here at B‑UMS. 🎶
This past weekend, five of our middle school band students were selected to participate in the Glenville State University Honor Band—a high school–level event that brings together some of the top student musicians from across West Virginia for an exceptional music-making experience.
Students at this event auditioned in person for chair placement, stepping into a much higher-level musical environment—and our students rose to the challenge with confidence and skill.
From left to right, placements were:
💙 Tanner Hardy – 2nd Chair Tuba
🤍 Anders Lane – 3rd Chair Alto Saxophone
💙 Bee Butler – 3rd Chair Clarinet
🤍 Warren Austin – 2nd Chair Clarinet
💙 Brock Williams – 3rd Chair Flute
We couldn’t be prouder of these students for doing hard things, embracing challenge, and showing what’s possible when dedication meets opportunity. They came ready to play—and it showed! They represented our B‑UMS band program with pride every step of the way. 💙🤍🎶
✨ This is just one of the many opportunities our students have at B‑UMS. From advanced music experiences to leadership, athletics, and academics, we believe in opening doors early and pushing our students to grow beyond expectations.
Way to go, musicians! 💙🤍🎶

Real-World Learning at B-UMS Builds Strong Futures
Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School continues to offer unique, hands-on learning opportunities that prepare students for life beyond the classroom. Recently, Natural Resource Police Officer Sergeant Jeremy Quinn visited Mrs. Bennett’s wellness classes to share his knowledge and experience with our students.
Through this partnership, students will have the opportunity—after state testing—to become certified in the Hunter Education and Safety Course. This certification is more than a credential; it builds responsibility, safety awareness, and career connections tied to West Virginia’s rich outdoor heritage.
Opportunities like this set B-UMS apart. By bringing real professionals into our classrooms and offering meaningful certifications, we provide experiences that engage students, build skills, and strengthen their connection to our school community.
We’re proud to offer programs that we offer at—because at B-UMS, learning goes beyond the textbook.

🚀✨ STATE CHAMPION ALERT! ✨🚀
We are beyond proud to celebrate Ben McCune, who earned 🥇 1st Place at the State Science and Engineering Fair in the Physics & Astronomy Division at the West Virginia State Science Fair! 🌌🔬
Ben’s winning project, “Whee! How Much Track to Loop the Loop?”, wasn’t just a cool idea—it was serious science in action. Ben put in real work, conducting over 200 trials, each one carefully documented with multiple data points. His dedication, precision, and persistence truly set his project apart from the competition.
Competing against some of the brightest young scientists in the state, Ben’s work stood out for its depth, creativity, and scientific rigor. This achievement is a powerful example of what happens when curiosity meets hard work and determination.
This is not just a win for Ben, but a moment of pride for our entire school community. His success inspires us all to ask big questions, think boldly, and never stop exploring. ⭐
👏 Congratulations, Ben! We can’t wait to see where your passion for physics and discovery takes you next. The future is bright—and it’s powered by minds like yours!
