October 25th kicks off Red Ribbon Week at B-UMS!
Welcome to the Energy Kick Off!
8th Grade students had a wonderful experience yesterday at their Energy Project Kick-off. Professionals in the fields of Energy, Coal, Oil and Gas, and Forest Management were invited to speak to our Team students about how they manage natural resources and about their career path. As part of their investigation, students will create a psa/pamphlet, Solar Car or Windmill model, a map of West Virginia, as well as learning about the historical resources of the Mountain State.
Just a reminder that Family-Teacher Conferences will be held tomorrow, October 5th, from 4:00-6:00pm at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School. We hope to see you there!
Attention 7th grade parents:
This is a reminder that the deadline for the 7th grade Meningococcal and Tdap vaccinations is September 1st, 2021. Students will need to call home and be picked up if sent to school without these vaccinations. They are required by the state for all 7th graders.
All incoming 9th grade students! B-UHS Summer School still has openings for summer school P.E. You will receive a credit for this class. For more info call Mr. Roy. 304-472-3720 ext 5009
Students still needing to turn their iPads May do so tomorrow Wednesday 26th from 8:00-3:15 please make sure the device is charged at least 50% and you bring your chargers.

All full time remote, virtual, and homeschool students in 6th grade who need to complete a make up test for the WV state testing (WVGSA) please report to the school on Monday May17th by7:45 to complete your make up test with Mrs. Cale! Parents will be notified once their student has completed for pick up.

7th grade will be held on Tuesday May 18th @7:45 and 8th will be held on May 20th @7:45 am.
Parents! Starting Monday May 17th we will begin picking up student iPads for the end of the academic year. Please remind your students to bring both the charger and charging block along with their iPads.
Remote students will be able to drop off their devices on Wednesday between 7:30- 3:30. We will also be available after school on Tuesday 25th until 5:30pm.
2021 Parent & Student Interest Survey
Research has shown that after school programs for children increases achievement and prevents risky behaviors. Therefore, the Harrison County After school 21st CCLC Department with Upshur County would like to reapply with the Project ISAAC After school Grant Application for the next five years. Parental/Guardian input is very important to the grant reapplication process. Please complete and return this interest survey to your child’s school no later than Friday, May 21, 2021.

Students! Please remember testing starts Monday! Please make sure your iPad is fully charged and if you have headphones that will plug into the iPad to bring them. Remote students please be at the school by 8:00 am each day of testing. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday testing should be completed by 11:00. 8th grade students the science test is on the 17th you should report by 8:00 am and should be complete by approximately 9:00. Hello BUMS families! The West Virginia State Test will be administered at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School on May 10th, 11th, and 13th. Students in 8th Grade students will be required to complete an additional test on Monday, May 17th also. Please bring your iPads fully charged and be ready to do your best on the test! Students are welcomed and encouraged to bring a pair of headphones from home that plug into the iPad (no Bluetooth devices please). Students who are full time remote will be testing on these same days and will test in their 5th period classes.

**WV General State Assessment will be held on 5/10, 5/11, 5/13 with 8th grade having an additional day on 5/17. Testing will begin at 8:00 and will end approximately 11:00 on 5/10, 5/11, and 5/13. 8th Grade remote and WV Learns students, the counselors at BUMS will be hosting an event on April 20th 5:00-6:00 pm to assist with scheduling your classes for the high school next year.
Attention 8th graders: The mission of Fred W. Eberle Technical Center is to produce generations of knowledgeable, skillful, and productive professionals that will lead the way into the future." FETC provides career training to prepare you for a job after high school, or to help you further your career. Incoming freshmen and sophomores, along with their guardians are welcome to join us for an informational night. Come out and meet our faculty as they explain their programs offered at FETC. Programs include: Automotive Technology, Carpentry, Collision Repair, Computer Systems Repair, CISCO Networking Academy, Cosmetology, Diesel Technology, Electrical Technology, Therapeutic Services, and Welding Technology. This is the perfect night to discover programs and ask questions as you plan for your high school career. We will gather on Monday, April 19 at Fred Eberle Technical Center, 208 Morton Ave. Buckhannon, WV 26201 from 5:30-7:30 pm. It is best to come for the two hours to ensure time for each program. Good morning B-UMS Families! This is a friendly reminder to complete the survey (first sent March 19th) about the learning opportunity that we are offering our students this summer. Our project-based summer session is open to all current 5th, 6th, and 7th graders. Our current 8th graders have the opportunity to attend a learning academy at BUHS (contact BUHS for more information).
